The Bulldog 5k returned to the DC area race schedule after a year off to repave the course and it was glad to welcome 30 National Road Racing League runners, many of whom finished in the top of the field for both male and female scoring.
The rolling terrain
challenged all runners in the middle section of the Chevy Chase course, but it
was DC Running Coach, LLC who squeaked through for the victory after the dust
had settled. DCRC finished 1 point
ahead of Athletes Without Limits, who finished just another single point ahead
of Capital Alumni Network.
Evolution had solid performances in both genders, but took the 4th
place spot.
Omar Nour, who is
attempting to make the 2012 Olympics in triathlon won handily on the course overall
before a slew of NRRL runners came in behind him. Ben Mitchell took the silver, with Michael Niederhausen
taking bronze. On the women's
side, AWL captain Melani Hom won the NRRL race, also finishing 3rd in
the overall race field. Kinetic Fitness, LLC captain Becca Lipscomb was next across the line for NRRL females,
just 3 seconds ahead of Nikki Elston of DCRC.
This marks the closest
race in NRRL history among 3 teams!
DCRC is now in 1st place in the team standings, with AWL in 2nd;
both teams had taken a bye last week, which puts CAN in 3rd. The individual rankings are now taking
shape with a few runners who have run both NRRL races sitting atop the points
race.
This is a league focused
on team competition, so the next main event is the team scoring once again at
the Alexandria Running Festival 5k on May 27th.
Hope to see you there and thank you for the enthusiasm! Keep following along on Twitter and Facebook.
Mike
